On December 31—January 25, Quinn Kelsey returns to The Metropolitan Opera, singing Amonasro in Verdi’s gripping Aida. The baritone has sung the role all over the world, including The Met, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chorégies d’Orange, and Semperoper Dresden. Of that performance, Seen and Heard International said, “Quinn Kelsey, with his brawny baritone, was outstanding as an impassioned and authoritative Amonasro, the captive Ethiopian king, to whom he brought unusual depth.”
Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the premiere of Michael Mayer’s spectacular new staging, which will be featured in a Live in HD Broadcast on January 21 and 25. Joining Kelsey onstage is Angel Blue in the title role, as well as Judit Kutasi as Amneris, Piotr Beczała and SeokJong Baek as Radamés, and Dmitry Belosselskiy and Morris Robinson as Ramfis.
