Quinn Kelsey returns to The Metropolitan Opera this March, bring his “deluxe” (Observer) portrayal of Sharpless in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly to The Met for the first time.
He has been praised for his interpretation of the sympathetic consul, with San Francisco Classical voice saying, “ Kelsey shaped the role into a man of warmth and genuine concern for his fragile charge. His glowing baritone let us see more the caring sincerity of a friend than the routine motions of an official.”
Kelsey joins an all-star cast in Anthony Minghella’s beloved production, under the baton of Carlo Rizzi. Sopranos Ailyn Pérez and Aleksandra Kurzak sing the title role, with Adam Smith as Pinkerton and Jennifer Johnson Cano as Suzuki. Kelsey will perform Sharpless on March 10, 14, 18, 21, and 27.
