Beginning on August 23, audiences from around the world can experience Quinn Kelsey’s “superb” (Observer) Scarpia in Puccini’s Tosca, which will be available to stream on Arte.tv as part of ARTE Concert, and will be broadcast on television on August 24.
Recorded live from The Metropolitan Opera as part of their Live in HD series, the all-star cast, which includes Lise Davidsen in the title role and Freddie De Tommaso as Mario Cavaradossi, shines in David McVicar’s lush production, led by Yannick Nézet-Séguin in the pit.
Kelsey received much acclaim for his performance, with Parterre raving, “Quinn Kelsey’s Scarpia is fully formed and marvelously complex. Not only can you catch every word, shaded with varying levels of arch menace, but his sound was exceptionally easily and steadily produced.” Bachtrack agreed, saying “Quinn Kelsey is the ‘Italian’ baritone we’ve been looking for, with a big, resonant sound and a wonderful, dramatic snarl that never stretches or distorts the vocal line.”
The production is also available to stream on Met Opera on Demand.
